The State of Package - Jan 30 2024
How Far We’ve Come…
Hello!
I just want to take a moment to say thank you for following Package’s development so far. It’s been a productive 6 months on our end, from finalizing our core loop and experimenting with GUI to meeting with sound designers and getting important user feedback to start work on new features. I’m very thankful for the support of family, friends, and colleagues who want to see Package become a reality.
Unfortunately, Package will not have its beta launch this month. As I still have a full time job, with it’s own deadlines, it’s still a bit of a balancing act to devote enough time to developing Package. But fret not! I’m still working on implementing some new feature requests while keeping the main functionality stable. I’m also looking for help from more experienced programmers as Package continues to grow. And while I can’t give an exact launch date just yet, I’ll keep updating this blog as new features get added.
For now, I’m happy to share what using Package will look like in the future.
Thanks again for following along on this journey! Until next time!
- Briana
(1) When you open Package you’ll have an opportunity to choose which show you would like to work on and choose one of three ways to input data:
Easy - Suggested for Entry Level or Beginner Sound Designers who are still learning about audio equipment and signal flow and how to make paperwork
Advanced (Manual Entry) - Suggested for Intermediate to Experienced Sound Designers who are seasoned in making paperwork and are starting work on a new show
Advanced (File Import) - Suggested for Intermediate to Experienced Sound Designers who have done some work offline already and just want to output paperwork quickly
(2) Depending which workflow you choose, a different set of steps will be available for you to work through in order to collect the data we need to make paperwork. Here’s a few highlights:
Patch Feature - If you define a list of inputs and outputs, we’ll let you “patch” them visually to the console used in your show
Editing at every step - If you need to add or remove items from your inventory, you can change it at every step
Google sheets support - You’ll be able to import input/output lists directly from Google Sheets
(3) No matter which workflow you choose, you will be able to create the same amount of documents for your paperwork package. While some of these drawings will require additional information, most will be generated with the click of a button. We’re currently working through USITT’s Sound Documentation Recommendations but as always if you have paperwork you’d like to see, feel to tell us here!
